Accessibility Statement

Accessibility statement

This accessibility statement applies to the Online Application Form which forms part of e:Vision.

This website is run by the SITS Support team for York St John University. We want as many people as possible to be able to use this website. For example, that means you should be able to:

  • change colours, contrast levels and fonts
  • zoom in up to 300% without the text spilling off the screen
  • navigate most of the website using just a keyboard
  • navigate most of the website using speech recognition software
  • listen to most of the website using a screen reader (including the most recent versions of JAWS, NVDA and VoiceOver)

We’ve also made the text as simple as possible to understand, where possible.

AbilityNet (opens in a new tab) has advice on making your device easier to use if you have a disability.

How accessible this website is

We know some parts of this website are not fully accessible:

  • Some of our online forms, such as our online application form, are difficult to navigate using just a keyboard
  • Some of our online forms, such as our online application form, are not marked up for screen readers
  • Most of our older PDF and Word documents are not fully accessible to screen reader software.
  • Some of our pages don’t have the correct heading structure
  • Some of our pages may lack some navigational elements

Feedback and contact information

Technical information about this website’s accessibility

York St John University is committed to making e:Vision accessible, in accordance with the Public Sector Bodies (Websites and Mobile Applications) (No. 2) Accessibility Regulations 2018.

Compliance Status

This website is partially compliant with the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines version 2.1 AA standard, due to the non-compliances listed below.

Non-accessible content

The content listed below is non-accessible for the following reasons.

Disproportionate burden

Interactive tools and transactions

Some of our interactive forms which use radio buttons may be difficult to navigate using screen readers. This is because of how our software handles radio buttons and is not an issue that can be fixed at our end.

To mitigate this, we have made sure that radio button answers are meaningful and can be understood without the question. There should be no accessibility issue if the page is read in full.

Link purpose

Some of our links may be ambiguous to screen readers. This fails WCAG 2.1 Success Criterion 2.4.9 Link Purpose.

Where possible each link on e:Vision should be understandable from link text alone. However there are instances where link generation is not editable. We will assess these few exceptions during the wider review of e:Vision in 2021 and we will investigate if it is possible to replace these out-of-the-box functions with bespoke accessible builds.

Content that’s not within the scope of the accessibility regulations

Historic documents (PDFs, Word) and system-generated correspondence

Some of our PDFs and Word documents are hosted by third parties and these may not meet accessibility standards as they may not be marked up for a screen reader. For example, we link to a Word document hosted externally on the Students’ Union privacy policy as part of the enrolment task. This is being reviewed with the Students’ Union ahead of our next enrolment cycle in 2021.

The accessibility regulations do not require us to fix PDFs or other documents published before 23 September 2018 if they’re not essential to providing our services. For example, we cannot fix system-generated correspondence to students which is available to view on e:Vision.

Any new PDFs or Word documents we publish will meet accessibility standards.

What we’re doing to improve accessibility

We are committed to improving accessibility across e:Vision and we work closely with our e:Vision provider, Tribal, to ensure all new e:Vision developments are done with accessibility in mind.
